TV: the Cola
Thinking of a metaphor that can describe the function of TV in my life, I came up with the word Cola; sweet but dangerous, optional but irreplaceable. Watching television is the one of the best ways to have fun. Almost every kind of entertainments is available with television: laughing with comedy shows, crying with soap operas and films and even dancing to the music. Whenever I am stressed out, I turn on the television to forget about the troubles. It feels just like drinking a whole glass of cola when I feel uncomfortable with my stomach after a heavy lunch. TV can be a sweet dessert and a digestive aid for the stress. But just like the cola makes me keep drinking it, I cannot easily turn the TV off even when I have a bunch of things to do. Both of them make me become fat and ill, so I should choose the alternatives which are called to be less harmful. Truly, there are various choices for entertainment: the radio, the computer, the Internet, and so on. But I cannot drink Sprite instead of the cola even though I know the cola is bad for my health; the sprite never satisfies me. Like this, the other media cannot absolutely replace the TV; they are somewhat lacking of something. Almost entire world knows that watching TV is not good, but we cannot always do something good, can we?
Hi Yeonju, this is Wansoo Cho!.
ReplyDeleteI think your writing is really creative.
At first, I was slightly dubious of your mataphor, but It became clear after reading.
Yet, in the last part, using Cola and Sprite for Tv and other media seems a little bit personal. Even though I can understand what you're willing to say, but as for me, Sprite is better than Cola, so It was not that effective as much as you meant to be. Also I think your writting will be better if you avoid vague conclusion. However, in all, it was really great and fresh!
