TV: could you live without it?

When I was a child, there wasn't a day that TV was turned off at home. My parents, especially my father, were a huge fan of movies, so my family watched TV almost every night. Sharing a soft blanket with my father, I stared at the screen no matter they were understandable for my short knowledge. Between TV ads, my mother quickly prepared a knife and apples from kitchen, so we were able to continue enjoying movies while taking a bite of them. For sure, TV was a kind of medium that let my family join together. Those old memories are so warm and cozy that they take quite a big part of my mind. As times goes by, my sisters and I get older, and that leaves us only little time to gather in front of TV. Now, when TV shows me horrible scenes, I don't throw myself into my father's arms any more. When it shows sad movies, I rarely whimper beside of my mother. Nevertheless, we still occasionally converge on the living room, and watch TV together. While watching it, we not only enjoy the program, but also share some daily conversations. My mother still peels apples for the rest of my family. Some people might argue that TV is strongly addictive and has full of harmful things. Others might insist that it offers informative materials as well as entertaining contents. However, whether it is helpful or not in the light of education or for a break, I believe TV plays an important role for many families like us. If we don't have TV in our hectic lives, we would have much less family gatherings. We might not have a difficulty living without it for the help of other functional devices. However, we would also lose an opportunity to have happy times with family.

  1. hello ! im Mi Jung Lee. i really liked writing.
your writing is short, simple, but still conveys your idea well. the sentences written in the writing is neat which is really easy to follow. Also, i really liked how you connected TV with your childhood memories.
However i find this sentence "... I stared at the screen no matter they were understandable for my short knowledge." a little awkward. how about 'no matter how understandable they were for my short knowledge'? This is my suggestion :)

  2. Hi! I'm ChaiHyun Nah from your monday morning writing class. It's really glad to read your paragraph. What I liked most in your paragraph is that it shows your point of view very strongly. I can clearly see you opinion about TV and also, your supporting sentences helped me understand your arguements. However, I was thinking that you could actually eliminate some unnecessary sentence that repeats the same thing over and over again. Or at least you can put them altogether in one sentence. Thank you, and see you on monday!
