An Embarrassing Incident For Me

201102252 Yun You Jung

I can't forget an embarrassing incident which happened 2 years ago in winter. Before I entered university, I had lived in Pusan. And when I was in third grade in high school, I had to go to Seoul for taking several writing proficiency tests. After finishing those tests, I had the time to go somewhere. I decided to go to the Kyobo Book Centre in Gwanghwamun because I love books. Even looking at piles of books makes me feel good. Also I wanted to see the new interior of Kyobo Book Centre. After hearing my decision, my mom said to me, "I think there isn't enough time to go there and read a book". But I really wanted to go there. Looking at a subway map which I had picked up at the information desk, I estimated how long it would take and found out that there is enough time to visit there. Finally my mom and I went to the Kyobo Book Centre. I went around that large book store and saw which were published. I felt the tension from test is removed! With a light heart, my mom and I left Kyobo Book Centre as planned. We took a subway and had a rest. But things started to go wrong. It took more time for subway to reach at the next station than I had expected. Furthermore, we spend many times to transfer subway lines. I couldn't think this because it took less time to transfer in Pusan. I was worried that my mom and I would miss the train which we reserved. Finally, we arrived at Seoul station but the train had already left just 1 minute ago. There were not any tickets left on that day, except for prestige class. But it was very expensive. I was in panic because we have to go to Pusan in that day. After all, we bought tickets for prestige class and arrived at Pusan. I really blamed me for miscalculating the time. Although I used prestige class first in my life, it was very embarrassing incident for me.

Ji-young JANG / A funny or embarrassing incident / Mon 9 a.m.

It's a story that encouraged me to learn English harder. It happened 5 years ago, when I was in United States as an exchange student. It was a hot summer day and the air conditioning system in school didn't work well. Walking down the hall way for 6th period, I was knocked out because of hot air. As I entered the class room I saw my two U.S. history teachers and said, 'Oh my goodness, I am hot!' At that very moment, they chuckled but their faces were saying 'What does she talking about?' I didn't know why they acted like that. So I asked my host mom on the way home. She laughed and explained, 'They might have misunderstood what you said. "I am hot" means that you are on a roll and you boast about that.'  I was so embarrassed of saying 'I am hot' instead of 'It's hot.' I thought, 'What if they think of me as boasting person who doesn't know any modesty.' Then I was reminded of the English class in middle school. I recognized that I had learned that few years ago. It is so basic thing! I learned English for several years and couldn't think of difference between 'I am hot' and 'It's hot.' I was disappointed with myself. After this episode happened, I made up my mind to study English much harder. It led me to finish my english grammar book that I brought from Korea. With finishing that book, I could be much more confident when I talk with natives in everyday life.

Coincident Connection

Last summer, July, I was traveling all around the Thailand with my friends. Every place and every moment were exciting memory until now, but there was most special thing happened to me while I was traveling. On the fifth day of the traveling, we moved our places from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We were going to stay at a guest house where a Korean couple runs. So many Korean travelers who visit Chiang Mai stayed at that guest house and the traveler who stays the next door was also Korean. Next day, we went to a mountain to do the tracking. At the beginning of the tracking, we join with other travelers, and among 5 of other travelers there was one Korean man. Meeting the same country person in other country was a somewhat nice and enjoyable thing. We had many talks with him and soon we find out that he was the man who stays next to our room. It was a really surprising coincidence! During the hicking we got closer and after coming back to the guest house we had a dinner together and even change our e-mails. Then, on the last day in Chiang Mai, we said good-bye to him and asked about his next traveling plan. And he said the same place we were going to visit ; Phuket. It was another coincidence and we said like "Maybe we could see each other in the Phuket also!" and laughed because probably no one in there thought we could meet again in Phuket, because Phuket was even broader than the Chiang Mai. However, amazing thing happened! Later, on the last day of our staying at Phuket, while waiting for the bus, we met him again. I can still remember the moment we saw each other and laughed with glad. It was a very short encounter but after that meeting, we all thought we were in a somekind of special connection, and we still have connected with each other when coming back to Korea.

Takgyun Lee / A funny incident / Mon 9-11

When I was a high school student about three years ago, I went to Busan with my friends for trip. We were supposed to look around the downtown in the afternoon and go to the sea in the evening. In fact, that was almost my first trip to the sea. Because I had lived in Daegu for a life where there is no sea. So that was the same case for most of my friends. We were so excited to go to the sea and play there. In the evening, we sat on the beach watching the waters flowing silently with breeze and drinking beer. We talked and drank facing the sea. After about an hour, we all came back to the house we were supposed to stay for the night. It was late and we were a little drunk. And we all fell asleep. Next morning, we woke up. Packing all the stuffs and being ready to leave, one of us noticed that a friend of ours was missing. We were all surprised and ran out to find the one. Following the trace, we finally got to the beach where we had spent the night before. All of us were panicked and hurried to find him. Then, one of us shouted from apart. We all ran to him and there lied the missed one. Half of his body was in the water and the other half on the land. We shook him to wake him up. He opened his eyes and spat out his first words. "Where's my beer?" Then, we all could relieve and laugh. Now we can say this with laughter, but remembering then, it was one of the desperate moments in my life.

My Thrilling Trip to London

When I was 17years old, I went to United Kingdom with my friend in summer vacation. We were so excited at that time because it was the first time to go abroad for both of us. But we didn't know that something terrible will happen to us until we went to London for our trip. When we were traveling in London, we could see a lot of interesting things. We visited Big Ben, London eye and Buckingham palace. We felt full of joy and happiness. When we decided to turn back to the hotel we stayed, we realized that something terrible happened. We lost our travel map! Not having a map meant that we can't go home. Because it was a first visit to London, we were strangers to here and don't know this neighborhood very well. We were lost! Our legs were shivering from top to the bottom and my face was as white as that of a corpse. We didn't have much money to use an expensive London taxi, and it was getting dark. We were so worried about this situation, but we didn't give up. We tried to ask the way to people. It was really hard to understand their explanation because our conversation skill wasn't so good. Anyway, we finally arrived in safety to the station. We had to use it to go back to hotel because it was getting dark and there was no time to walk. It was a first time to take a subway so we were very terrified to use it. But, we met a Korean guy who lived in London! He explained us how to go to our destination very kindly. We were so thankful to him. We could go back to our home safely. Although we were lost in London, and had trouble to go back to our hotel, we could see lots of wonderful architectures of London and met a very kind person. My trip to London was so exciting and thrilling. I would never forget about my trip.

Kahee Lee/ Something that happened during a trip/ Mon 9a.m.

A few months ago when I visited Tokyo for a week, I experienced an unexpected incident on our way back to the airport. The departure time for our plane home was in the morning, and the airport was quite far from our friend's house where we were staying. We were worried that we might not be able to wake up in time for our flight so we decided to spend our last night at the airport. We went to the train station and bought the ticket for the last airport express. We read the time printed on the ticket and it was written 21:10. However when we went to the platform to get on the train a few hours later, the train wasn't there. We had a bad feeling and checked our tickets again. To our surprise, the time we saw was not the departure time, but the arrival time. We ran to the station office and asked the staffs if there were any other way to get to the airport, but they all said that we will have to wait until the next day to catch the first train. When I heard that I just felt frustrated thinking that we will have to carry all our heavy bags back to our friends and it would be the middle of the night when we get back. Then one of the staff, a nice looking lady grabbed the phone and called someone. After a short talk she hung up and smiled at us saying that if we hurry and take a train going to a station nearby we might be able to transfer to metro that could take us to the airport. I really can't explain how fast we ran to catch that train with our entire luggage. At the end of the day we succeed to arrive at the airport. The incident of missing the train taught me a lesson that I should always double check the time of the transportation I will use. Sudden events are bound to happen when you are on a trip, and I've experienced that a lot, but this incident startled me the most.

The Happiest Moment Turns To The Worst Moment

For the first time in my 21 year long life, I confessed my love to one girl. I thought I found a perfect girl. Her eyes were as big as deer, and she had long black silk like hair. Besides her beauty, what I liked most is the fact that she is very talkative like sparrow. For me, just hearing her talking was amusing as I am a quite quiet person. One day I called her at late night and took her to the Yeoido. It was after mid-term during Yeoideo cherry blossom festival. Nightscape was very romantic. One side was dark Han River little splashing like a sea, and the another side was light from metropolitan tall buildings. We took a walk and talked for about 30 minutes. The more I talked with her the more I believed that she was one that I was looking for. The more I looked into her twinkling eyes the more I thought that I would regret if I miss her. "I have really important thing to tell you. Can you guess?" I said, smiling. "What? I hope that is different from what I expect." She said with little bit quivering voice. "Until high school years, I always thought that love is obstacle of my study and my dream. Even in the first year of university I thought same. However living alone apart from family is harder than I expected. I am experiencing emotionally hard time. I feel there are no true friends and also no one who really cares me. I hope to get a productive energy by loving you, so that I can go further. I love you." I said. She kept silence and left. What makes me even harder is that she treats me like a stranger after the day. My first love is crashed. Only way left is study and my dream.

Edema and Swimming

When I was thirteen years old, I went through hard time, suffering from an illness I had. Even since I was younger than then, my legs swallowed a lot and this was due to the edema. Although I was such a cheerful and lively girl, I couldn't walk for a long time and, of course, couldn't climb a mountain or spend enough time in a playground with friends. Every time I walked for somewhat long time or had to stay in the same posture in class, my legs became swollen so much and even it hurt me. The symptom continued for nearly a year, and finally right after I turned fourteen and entered a middle-school, I had to skip my first fieldtrip due to this edema. On that day, I still remember, I cried all day long in my room, feeling sorrow from cannot going to there and gathering together with new friends. Moreover, it was really a hard thing for me to focus on lectures. Since I was supposed to sit in front of a small desk all day at least in class, just sitting and staying focused was a difficult work. Seeing me suffering from the severe edema, my teacher who really cared me sincerely, recommended me take swimming class every morning and try to lessen the pain. Thanks to her advice, I talked to my mother and decided to take swimming class every day before going to the school. It was not an easy work. I had to wake up at five, getting ready to exercise and preparing for the classes at the same time. Also, since I got a weak body until I started it for the first time, It felt like I was in hell. However, for six months, all the symptoms from edema got increasingly better and I could stay focused in a static posture for a long time during classes. Thanks to my effort for two years since then, I almost became fine with my edema and even participated in a swimming race and got a medal. Regarding this, swollen legs and edema was once the most painful thing that annoyed me, but this , at the same time, was the driving force for my health now.

Travel to friends' mind

In the last Children's day, I went to kangwondo province with my friends in church. In fact, one of my friends suggested going somewhere for spending holiday well not wasting. I was so excited because it was first time to travel with friends without alcohol (in university, I always have to be with it) and even parents. First we divided role to prepare stuffs needed for eating. We got on bus and the bus reached Durae in kanwondo province. When we reached there, it was so pretty. Although night, we could feel the beautiful scenery of nature. The air was so fresh. There were many tall trees and we felt as if we were encircled by them. We were so happy seeing those spectacles. At that time we felt ourselves being children given a gift from nature. After enjoying them, we ate dinner samgyepsal. After eating, we all sit in front of fire. That is, we did camp fire. One of my friends shared her weakness that she couldn't have revealed to anyone before. I was so impressed and appreciated by not only she told us her secret but also I could feel listening her problems made her better. Sometimes, we even couldn't understand each other though we gather together for the purpose of understanding each other in church. However, thanks to her confession, we could reflect ourselves and be one. In conclusion, travel to kangwondo was not a travel to nature which is far away from seoul, pollutant city, but also travel to my friends who I couldn't understand.

Youn Hee KIM/The Best Place To Live In/Mon9-11

The Best City To Live In

In Ivory Coast, the best place to live is the city called Abidjan the capital of the country. It's a city with two large beaches and there are palm trees along the roads. It has been called "Africa's Paris" by foreigners because it's really a beautiful city. For same reasons, this city has the perfect atmosphere to live. First, the transport system is very convenient. Unlike other cities of this country, there are owner-driver taxies and yellow taxies called woro-woro. Second, the climate is pleasant. Even if it's hot, there is the minimum of humidity and the sun shines brightly so I think it's the appropriate weather. There are the dry season and the rainy season but they aren't that long. There will be no problem if you stand two months of each season, or avoid these months to travel. In addition, there are beautiful hotels with vast golf-links and swimming places. We can sit on the benches which are in the gardens full of exotic flowers. Also, there is a cathedral called "The Cathedral of Yamoussoukro" which is known as the biggest one of the world. It's very unpopular but when seeing it, you could feel some divineness and great glory. I recommend you to go there and see it someday. Abidjan is the country's first city desired to live because it has beautiful places and convenient transportation. It could be the first choice to visit for foreigners too!

Kim Ji Su/ Is it a good idea to live with relatives?

Is it a good idea to live with relatives?

Living with relatives might be heard as awesome news for some students.

We meet relatives mainly on national celebrating days such as, Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Day.

So when we meet relatives we gather around and chat and have a good time.

Therefore when you hear the word relatives it will give you images of playfulness.

However I would recommend those who are willing to live with their relatives to reconsider that idea.

I'm currently living with my youngest aunt. She is the youngest daughter

from my mother's side of the family and she is 7 years older than me.

When we lived separately, I always enjoyed playing with my youngest aunt.

She was pretty, young and we had similar taste on fashion and food.

So when my mother asked if it's okay for me to stay with my aunt, I said "YES!" without any hesitation.

However things got ugly after she moved in with us. I never had the chance to know the real side of my aunt before.

After living together, her nasty habits really tortured me. She always nagged at me since I was the youngest in the family.

She never washed her dishes, and she always borrowed my clothes.

It really made me angry and felt sorry for myself to be caught in such kind of situation.

It was a hasty decision to decide one's personality through his/her behaviors that are only shown between the relatives.

It is a hard job to find out one's real personality unless you live with them.

However I hardly think it's a good idea to live with relatives, because it is better not to know.

The Best Place to Live In

When it comes to the problem of picking the best place to live in, I would definitely choose Blacksburg. This small countryside town is located in Virginia of the United States. It is not a big city, but it is very convenient to live in. For example, there is a pretty big square where all the markets and restaurants are located, so that you can always do small shopping or watch movies. Moreover, there are some great schools in Blacksburg: Virginia Tech, Blacksburg High School, Blacksburg Middle School, and KIPPS Elementary School. These are all qualified schools with great facilities and teachers. But the best thing about this small village is its wonderful nature. Since it is located in high above the Mountain Rocky, the air is always very fresh. There exist a big cow farm and a horse farm—during the winter, with snow covering the most parts of the farm, it looks like a pretty village in Swiss! I had a great opportunity to live here during 2005 to 2006. I believe Blacksburg is the best place to live in and how can I possibly forget this beautiful town!

The best job for me

Although my parents say the best job is the highest salary job, I want something different than money from my future job. First, I want a job where I can use my academic knowledge. I studied English, Russian, French, foreign literature, devoting my whole college life to it. Why did I? Because I believe it helps me to be a useful person in the society: my family, my school, my country, and humanbeing. I don't want to abandon my agile academic sense, chosing a job, not related to my mojor and my interest. I hope to work in the foreign literature and art field, as a translator or teacher, so that I can adapt what I've learned and studied. Second, I think a job should give me enough free time to enjoy my life. A job is just a part of my life, not my life as a whole. I need spare time to relax, read interesting books or magazines, see films, meet friends, travel, and go swimming. To satisfy my desire, I found I shouldn't work more than four days a week and leave from the work at six in every evening. Since I know well it is hard to get a job with that condition, I am thinking about working as a freelancer. Third, I want a job where there is a good boss. I think a good boss is a person who has higher competence than me, so he or she can teach me how to work well. Since I have several experiences working under stupid managers, I found meeting a smart and competent boss is crucial in working life. I don't want a person who bothers me with their mistakes and clumsiness as my boss. I want a boss who are perfectly professional, so he or she can be a role model in my career. Likewise, I want to get a job, that I can use my knowledge, gives enough spare time and where I can work under a good boss.

Lee Myungjae/ Are pets good companions?/ Mon12

What Are Pets to Us

I definitely think that pets are good companions to everyone. They teach us many valuable things as well as comforts us emotionally. First, we can better understand the nature by raising pets. For example, when I raised hamsters, I had to leave them for 3 days because of a family trip. Worried about their food, I filled the bowl with enough feed and water before I left. However, when I got back, I was so shocked to find that the mother hamster ate her kids. "Mom! The mother hamster were so hungry that ate her kids!!" I ran to my mother crying, but what she said was also surprising. She explained that if hamsters faced with an unusaul environment, they tended to eat their kids to protect them. She added that it was because they thought to kill their kids by themselves were better than to let them die under more dangerous situation. I couldn't understand her words thorougly at that time, but at least realized that some animals could kill their kids not because they were cruel but because they tried to save them. Even if it looks absurd to human, that's the way how they adjust to the changed environment. That was totally a new lesson to me. Furthermore, when we take care of pets, we naturally grow a sense of resposibility. In my experience, when I raised rabbits with my sister, we cleaned up their cage every satureday. It was a tiring thing to do and removing their droppings was not a pleasing work at all. However, we never skipped it even once because we didn't want our cute rabbits to get sick in a dirty, smelly space. The love for pets made us more resposible and considerable. Finally, pets are always good partners no matter how we feel. Personally, I was given a great comfort from my rabbit. Pretty frequently when I felt gloomy, I went out for a walk with my rabbit on my shoulder. I walked and walked for a long time with her. She didn't say a word, but I felt that she was there so vividly beating her heartbeats. And whenver she made little moves on my shoulder, I felt tickled but happy. The strong feeling that she was being alive with me made me so peaceful and comfortable. In many cases, we cannot deny that pets are good teachers and partners to us. They always gives us a wonderful experience.

Sora Kim/The best age to get married/Mon 9~11

When is the marriageable age?

According to the report, marriageable age is in early 30s in 2011. More women want to get married later. Because most of them want to work and they think marriage stands in the way of promotion. But is it true? I think mid 20s is the best age to get married. First, mid 20s is the best age to have a baby. According to the obstetricians, mid 20s is the most perfect body to have a baby. Because of the risk of miscarriage and birth children with disability will decrease. So she can have a healthy baby. Second, mid 20s is the best age to raise a baby. It is good for mom and baby. Most of women think having a baby early will not help her career. Actually it isn't. In that age most of women have low position in her workplace. So she doesn't have any pressure on maternity leave or day off. As her position in workplace higher, her child older that doesn't need parents' help anymore. So it helps women's career. And child could have young mom who can understand easily because the age gap isn't big, so she just like a friend to child. Third, marrying in that age is good for rookie women. Like I said, most of women start their job. As a first step into the real world, they will get hurt and so much stressful. Then her husband will stand by her. And he will become a pillar of hope for his wife. Mid 20s is the best age to get married. It's good for herself and baby.

Wansoo Cho/ Are dogs good companion?/ Mon 9`11

How many family do you have? If somebody ask me this question, I say 8 family without any hestitation, among which 3 out of 8 are our dogs. I'm not a pet lover but I'm sure dogs are our best friends than any other animals. There are 3 reasons for my arguments.

First of all, dogs have loyalty which come from their real hearts. They do not lie to human and always show respects any time, any where. For example, when  I'm home, my lovely dogs always come for me and delightly welcome.

Next, dogs give us education. You might wonder what lessons they can give. That's natural because dogs don't directly give those like human. For instance, when my dog care their puppies, I can feel her motherhood. Sometimes I come to think of  dogs as small human.

Finally, dogs protect us from danger. Actually this is not all the case for all the dogs , however at least they have instinct to guard their family.

Some might argue dogs are irritating. Barking loud, noisiness ... However that's not enough to just say they are not our companion. Just think about human. Probably they are more likely to dirve your nuts. Just a thing alone that dogs are always around us is enough to say they are our good friends.

Opinion writing

<Child Obesity>

Obesity is becoming a huge problem in today's society.

The problem of child's obesity is especially increasing these days.

Most people think child obesity is happening because too much fast food is prevalent throughout the society.

However the fundamental reason for this problem lies on the children's parents.

These days, both parents have their jobs remained after the child is born.

Having a dual income may be beneficial to the household's monetary system. However it gives bad influences on their children's eating habit.

After mom and dad goes to work, a child who is left alone consider what he or she will have for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Since parents don't wish their kids to starve, they usually give a substantial amount of money to the kids to order any kind of food he or she wants to eat. This leads children to have habits of eating unhealthy food: fast food usually.

This is because most of the delivery food contains high amount of salt and fat which is very bad for our health.

Also children prefer to eat spicy and sweets which usually have no nutrition needed for the body.

In addition, because working parents cannot keep their children to have their eating time regularly,

Ji-young JANG / Are pets good companions? / Mon 9 a.m.

Pets - Keeps People Alive

Are pets good companions?  I totally agree with that idea like most people do. From old times, people have believed that pets enrich our lives. Nowdays lots of researches have been done. Among them, one has got an interesting conclusion. A research on the elders who live alone concluded that the elder who live with pets live longer than whom do not. The researchers gave two main reasons. First one is that it's beneficial to people on the aspect of psychology. Pets make people laugh, cry or even talk to them. It gives a great advantage for people who live alone not to have depression. Also it makes people feel alive. Second reason they insist was that pets are good for human's health. If their pets are the animal which are needed to take a walk or move somehow, it makes people move, too. Because they go out with their pets and walk around, it gives people opportunity to exercise. With other reasons, pets are wonderful animals to help people live longer. Other than this reason - helping people live longer-, pets have been good companions and will be also.

Topic: An opinion paragraph on the topic, What is the best job for you? Why?

You can even make job for your own

Look dream beyond dream. 'I dream for working in Apple.' 'I really want to be a Samsung man.' These are some phrases that you can easily hear in campus. For them, having a certain job is dream, setting aside what will they are going to do after getting certain job. However, I'd say that job is rather closer to an equipment to fulfill dream. My dream is to be the world best Indonesia expert. Plus, my dream beyond dream is to improve relation between Republic of Korea and Indonesia and develop Indonesia in unique way for Indonesia, not just following global standard. For this, I could work for a Korean government, even I could work for Indonesian government, I could work in private company or I could teach in school. Important thing is being the person who is needed for important occasions such as concluding agreement between two countries or getting advice for setting policy. I am not the person who only cares about individual reputation or wealth. I will take a stance truly for Indonesia and its people. For example I will join process of concluding agreement between Indonesia and Korea companies, suggesting contents of contract to be win-win for both countries in a long run. As I consider that a tendency of unfair contract by some Korean companies with Indonesian companies is being recognized, for example Korean companies taking 8 of benefits leaving only 2 to Indonesian side, I really want to correct this because Indonesian people are not fool. They will leave Korea after gaining what they want as long as this unfair situation lasts. By improving it to be half-half or at least making it somewhat fairer, Korea will get a trustworthy friend in a long term.

In conclusion, for me best job is not selecting what the world already has. I work under various titles and as long as it is required, I will create a new form of job.

Kahee Lee/ The best city to live in/ Mon 9a.m.

Of all the places I have been to, I think that Wien, Austria is the best place to live in. Wien has the three things that I think is important to consider when I decide a place to live in. The first factor is the appearance of the city. Wien is the capital of the country just like Seoul, but has a totally different look. There are no skyscrapers in the city and most of the buildings have less than six floors, designed like they are from the middle ages. There are many large palaces and old Catholic churches in the city, each and every one of them so beautiful, giving you the feeling that time has stopped in this city. The city also has lovely parks and gardens so you can take a walk in nature when you need refreshment. The second factor is the entertainment that I can experience in the city. Wien has many museums with various themes and exhibitions so everyone from kids to adults can find something that they can find interesting. One of the museums possesses the famous 'The Kiss' of Gustav Klimt, who is one of my favorite painters, which I found very interesting. The city of Wien is very well known as the city of music, and just like its reputation, you can always find an opera or a concert being held in an opera house, churches or even in a palace. Because I love art I wanted to live in a place that I can enjoy a cultural life. And Wien was the perfect place for it. Finally, the last factor is whether the city has nice restaurants and cafes. Since I love eating out and drinking coffee, this is very important to me. Luckily I was able to check this factor during my short stay in the city last year. The food was very good, especially the desserts, and everyone knows that Wien coffee is famous worldwide. Considering all three factors I think is highly regarded in a place to live, Wien is definitely the best city to live in, because it is a beautiful city that has lots to enjoy.

THE BEST PLACE TO LIVE/ SON NA RAE/ MON 9-11

IF I WERE BORN AGAIN, WHERE SHALL I CHOOSE?

When I traveled through Europe, I visited Barcelona, Spain, and I thought it is the right place I have ever dreamed to settle down if I were born again. The city is well harmonized with the modernity and tradition. Besides, Compared to other Europe countries, the cost of living is relatively low. Moreover, in the city, people can easily find nature environment and enjoy there.

What I was impressed is that, there were many modern architects as well as historic legacy in the same area. It might sound disharmonized, but it was quite attractive view. Stepping on the street put together with different shapes of stones, which was traced to the old age. At the same time, I could release the heat from the sun in the modern café such as starbucks.

While traveling, I got to know that the cost of bottled water decides the cost of living. And when I arrived in Barcelona from Paris, I was surprised with the cost of many items. It was so ideally affordable price that I not only purchased the gifts for my people but also enjoyed the traditional Spanish foods, which I couldn't do in Paris or Rome.

To me, the nature around the city was fascinating the most. In Korea, the place where people can spend their leisure time is quite limited. We don't have many options but to go to Karaoke, PC room, pubs or something. And it is worse for the young. So I always thought if the city is surrounded with the nature, it would be nice. In this sense, Barcelona has the perfect atmosphere to me. In the city, there are many huge parks where people can ride a bike, see the performance of artists, and open the flea market. Not only the parks, there are also seashore. People can go swimming, read a book, basking in the sunshine. And in the reachable distant, there are aligned fine restaurants. Of course the restaurants were world-class famous that the names of the restaurant were put in the magazines.

If I were born again, I must be in Barcelona. I want to appreciate the atmosphere between the past and present. Plus, it would be better if I could afford the life expenditure by myself. If the city is with many woods or seashore, it would be the best.

Is it a good idea to live with relatives?

Have you ever had a chance to live with your relatives? Not your grandparents but your aunts or uncles and their children. This could be an exciting thing for some of you but I disagree with the idea of living with relatives. Relatives are part of a family but they are quite different from the family members that you have been living your life together-your parents and your siblings. Living with relatives can be uncomfortable and difficult sometimes because of the following reasons. Relatives might have different life style or pattern. As they are from different backgrounds, their values and perspectives can differ from you a lot. This can lead to some trouble or misunderstanding between each other and eventually this might drive a wedge between you and your relatives. I once had to live with my uncle's family when I stayed in Seoul preparing for university entrance exam. It was not terrible but I have to say that it was not that great either. Their life style was totally different from my family's life style. Everything was not organized, they were likely to have a meal irregularly, and they would put their clothes everywhere that I could not find my own clothes later on. This might sound very trivial but you have no idea how stressing this difference can be. Moreover, when you live with your relatives, it is hard to take care of the financial issues. As I mentioned, relatives are from different backgrounds so they might have jobs that earn less or more money. Then you might have trouble with spending because their values can be different from what you think when they go shopping. This can also become an obstacle for you and your relatives and before you know, you might have hurt each other's feelings. For all these reasons, I believe that living with relatives is not a good idea.

Bad Companions : Cats

There are lots of people who love their pets because they are small, cute and lovely. However, people should know that they can make you annoyed although they look so quiet and peaceful. For many reasons, pets are not that good as companions. Especially, cats are the worst pets to live with. I know that because I have a cat. First of all, it makes a lot of noise. Cats always make annoying sound when they are hungry, sleepy, and bored. It means that cats bother you every second. For example, my cat made a noisy sound when I was doing my homework. It was a writing homework, and I had to do it quickly before the deadline. But my cat kept making a loud, annoying sound, and it made me crazy. Second, it makes you hurt because of its special habit. Cats like to climb up to the higher place. So they are trying to climb your leg as if it is a tree. So, I have a lot of scars because my cat scratched my legs to climb up. It is so hurt to get a lot of scars which don't disappear for 7 days. And finally, it makes your home dirty. Although cat is well known as a clean animal, it makes your room as a mess like a dirty pig. For instance, few days ago, my cat pooped in my school bag. In addition to that, it ran all of my room with its feet which are smeared with poop. I made me angry and tired. Although pets make people happy and excited with their cute acting, they also make a lot of annoying things like my cat. They are not good companions.

28, perfect age to get married

I think the best age to get married is 28. These days, the age people get married is getting older and older. However, according to the several research, when women are getting old over 30, it is hard for them to have a baby. It is hard to have a baby not only, but when fortunately they have a baby, the possibility of having deformed baby is getting increased. Also, until 25, most of the women are attending their schools. Around 25, they have to get a job. After that age, they need a time to get used to the job they got. Two or three years later after the getting a job is a perfect time for people to get stabilized. Finally, considering the marriage is a very important choice and event in your whole life, which can affect your left life, you have to get responsibility for your choice. Too young ages are not enough for you to make significant decision on your life. I've seen many people who get married too young and regret not having many experiences in their life but having hard time doing it because of their marriage. Also, I've seen some people who get married too late and worried about their children. For these reasons, I think 28 is the most proper age which isn't too young or too late to get married.

The City We Can Meet Ourselves And Nature

In the world, there are so many cities. Even in Korea, there are 83 cities. Among cities over the world, the best city I want to live in is Hallstatt. The name of this city might be unfamiliar with most of you. But you would have seen this city if you had watched a famous movie, The Sound of Music. Hallstatt is the setting of this movie. When I watched it, I was impressed not only by the contents but also by the city in it. I searched this city and found its name and beautiful images. The more I know Hallstatt, the more I think that in the future, I will live in this city.

Hallstatt is a small city. There aren't any high buildings. Most of buildings are houses which are two to three stories high. There aren't many cars and people. By leaving from busy life where noise of cars and people is existed all the time, we can feel peaceful. We can do our work not being disturbed. We can look back our lives and organize our thoughts well.

And it is a city where we can meet nature at any time. It is in the Alps so we can see the huge mountain which is covered with snow. Also, there is a lake with the same name as this city. The lake is so clear that mountain and the houses are reflected in the water. People feel as if another town is in the lake.

The life in Hallstatt can be inconvenient because there are not many transportation or department store. Instead, we can have a time escaping from busy life and thinking about ourselves. This is the reason I want to live in the Hallstatt. One day in the future, I will look back my life seeing wonderful nature in the Hallstatt.

A Translator, My Future Job

Attending to various courses from English Interpretation and Translation department, a translator, as an occupation has become very attractive for me. Actually, a translator used to be my dream job, but I was not that confident, because there was almost no information about how to become a translator. However, having learned this in classes and acknowledged what good attributes translators should have, I started thinking that the job really fits me well. First, the most important requisite to become a translator is a good language skill. Although it has not been a long time since I started learning English and it is far behind to be perfect, I am quite fast at absorbing it. Not only the aspect of skill, I am also very interested in speaking foreign language and feel excited, communicating with others who are using the language other than my mother tongue. Regarding this, my desire to learn foreign language, especially English, will make it easy for me to become a translator. On top of that, I prefer working alone at home than working in a company, spending most of my time with colleagues. Since I like individual work and always want to work professionally by exploiting my time the most, the fact that I can work on a project by myself, managing my own schedule is the most attractive aspect of taking a translator as a profession. Of course, I have to cooperate with my friends who are in the same field and build good rapport, I definitely want to be alone, when I have to do the job because it's not distracting. Considering these two reasons, I think a translator is a job that is the most appropriate for me.

When we marry?

I think age between 27 and 29 is the most appropriate for marriage. In the research says nowadays the average of age to marry is hovering around 30 because of the problem of money. Almost 43% replies that is the main reason to make them be reluctant with marry early. It is because that many people have a hard time to get a job just after graduate. So it takes a long time to make money to support their marriage. However when they get married after 30, women have risk of pregnancy. That is, they have difficulty to have babies. I think the money for support their economic condition and the body condition to have babies are the most important think we should consider when they decide to marry. In fact many adults like relatives say age between 27 and 29 is the best. For example, my mother married when she was in 23 and she always told me not to marry too fast. She insisted that I should enjoy my life first. However she also agreed age over 30 is too late in terms of reasons I mentioned above. In conclusion, we should consider the life both after and before marriage and I think age between 27 and 29 is appropriate for those condions.

The city of beautiful nature: Je-ju Island

I think that Je-Ju island is the best city to live in. So if I have opportunity, I want to live in Je-ju Island. According to <Si-sa Journal> (One of the weekly magazine in South Korea)'s research which is based on 2010 Population and housing census and the National Statistical Office's e-local indicators, Je-Ju Island is the area that has the most quality of life among nationwide 16 cities and provinces. Je-ju Island is famous for its beautiful scenery and nature environment. In the middle of je-ju Island, there is the Halla Mountain which is the highest mountain in South Korea. And throughout the island, there are many O-reums (the Je-ju dialect) which mean parasitic volcano. The sea of Jeju lsland has different scenery and atmosphere unlike the East-sea or the South-sea. When a high school excursion, I visited Je-ju Island. It was so impressive that Je-ju Island has beautiful scenery like the Jeong-bang waterfall and the Sung-san sunrise peak. Life of city is too tired because we are so busy and the city always crowd with many people. So escape from the city, I believe it is truly happy life that live in beautiful scenery like Je-ju Island.

Takgyun Lee / Living with Relatives / Mon 9-11

In many Korean dramas, we can find many kinds of big families, in which all the relatives live together. And it has not been long since the notion of nuclear family was adopted in Korea. Koreans would live with relatives and that was common. Then, do you think living with relatives is a good idea? I think it is. As the size of family has been smaller, it has caused many problems. First of all, children raised in the nuclear family don't have many chances to learn how to deal with adults and peers at home. If you live with relatives, you have to confront many other grownups beside your parents even inside the house. That will help you internalize the right attitude toward adults which is very important for Koreans. Also, children nowadays don't know how to call their relatives. Different from English, there are tens of names used to call relatives in Korean. It is essential knowledge for Koreans. Children may learn about it without difficulties. Not only for children but adults also benefit from relatives living together. On every big holiday such as Seol and Chuseok, Koreans 'travel' the long way to get together with relatives. But living with them in a house will reduce the fatigue and tiresome. Relatives are just like family. Living with relatives are same as living with family, which is really natural. And with all those advantages, I think living with relatives is a good idea.

The Teacher Whom I Depend On

We meet a lot of teacher in our lives. But not all of them remain in our hearts. I've met this one teacher in my 3rd grade of high school and she's the one who will remain in my heart forever. Because since the day I've met her, my life has been totally changed. She was my German teacher and I really liked her from the start. She was always cheerful and full of pride in a good way. Whenever I had problems I went to her and she always gave me the best answer. It was beginning of my senior year and like other students I was afraid to step into the life of preparing for University entrance. I was in dilemma of choosing what to study in the future; like the trend of society, should I go for the management? Or should I go for majoring in linguistics as my interest lies on? I asked this question to people I know and most of the answers were like "Of course the management! It would be helpful when you apply for a job". Then I went to my favorite teacher, Ms. Kim and she answered with mild smile on her face. "I used to work at Siemens a year ago. I was in charge of many projects. As you know I studied German and English back in university, not management. I got the job not according to my major but my ability." She looked in my eyes and continued. "Not everyone gets a job that follows what they have learned in the university, who does so is very few. I used to have same worries like you had but I chose to trust myself". By telling me this she assured me it's okay to follow my interests and also that the power that makes you outstanding is to have faith in yourself. Other than that I always asked her for solutions whenever I had problems. She always helped me to choose what's best for me and for my mind. For weeks I've been depressed and got bored with everything. I've been thinking that I can't get through all these burdens on my shoulder. But last week I got a phone call from Ms. Kim and we decided to meet up soon. Just by thinking of seeing her it gave me strength to go through.

GOOD TEACHER

We meet many teachers in our lives. Not to mention from in elementary school to in high school we meet teachers in university. Of course, not all the teachers are nice. Sometimes, there are bad teachers. I think a good teacher means a teacher who lives up to his words. If he teaches polite greetings to his students, he should set a good example by saying "Annyeonghaseyo, yeoreobun." Giving a good example like this works well because students tend to follow those who act first. A teacher I really liked was this kind of teacher. For instance, we had a class about protecting the environment. During class, he explained that environmental protection is critical these days in terms of a sustainable development. Of course, he taught us through books, videos, and other materials such as discovery channel showing the importance of it. However before the class, he had participated in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He said, "We should consider the environment as if it is a part of our body. He also helped us learn other things like making bread. It was when we studied all days in school. When lunch time came, he told through announcement, "People who want to make bread for lunch, come to my office! I will wait for you."  Many students went there, and made bread together. Also, when we played baseball with friends, he helped those who were not good at it by explaining the skills. He helped us throw and catch balls well. "You should weigh on your left foot more than on the right one when you throw balls" Thanks to this, my class could win the gold medal on the athletic meeting held in autumn. I feel really lucky that I had him as my teacher. There wasn't any teacher like him until now.
