The gift of flowers could easily be traced back to the beginning of time. In different cultures flowers can have different meanings. In Ancient Greece flowers were very special in the belief they belonged to the Gods. Today, flowers are given for much more than expressing ones love and admiration. Giving flowers as a gift can create different emotions in the recipient. Flowers can boost a person's mood, put a smile on their face or even make them cry with joy of your thoughtfulness.
Flowers can be given for house warming gift, as a host or hostess gift, for a birthday or a Valentine 's Day gift. Flowers are one of the most frequent gifts given to say "I Love You" and when you need to say "I'm sorry." Flowers can be given for almost every occasion.
With the vast variety of flowers and plants knowing what to give isn't always easy. Flowers have different meanings depending on the type, color and sometimes the amount given. So you must take the steps carefully. Considerating little effort and time, you will make a wonderful gift with flowers.

I think the writing gives me information that I didn't know about flowers as a gift.
However, I think it may be a bit too explanative. and the topic was supposed to be writing about a gift you gave. So I think your paragraph would be better if you wrote your own experience.

However, this paragraph was supposed to be written about the 'process' of choosing a gift. So, following the given topic, the paragraph should have been like 'process of choosing flowers as a gift'. It would be much better if you explain the process with the information you already gave us. It will help readers understand much better.
