How to make a delicious seaweed soup

In Korea, it is a tradition to cook a seaweed soup when it is someone's birthday. Seaweed soup seems very easy but it can be difficult without prior knowledge about the cooking process. I will tell you how to make a seaweed soup so you can cook it someday for someone that you care. First, you need the right ingredients. In this case, I am writing about seaweed soup with beef, which is the most well-known of the kind. You need 150 grams of beef, 30 grams of dried seaweed, a tablespoon of sesame oil, 8 cups of water, a tablespoon of soy sauce, a bit of pepper and mashed garlic. After preparing all the ingredients, soak the dried seaweed in the water for 20-30 minutes. When it becomes flabby, remove them from water and cut them in 2-3 centimeters. Next, you need to draw the blood from the beef by putting it in water. Afterwards, cut them in edible sizes and season them with the mashed garlic, bit of pepper and sesame oil, and half of the soy sauce. Then, in the heated pot, put the remains of sesame oil and roast the seasoned beef. Combine the seaweed in the pot and parch them all together to make it more tasty and rich. Lastly, pour some water in and boil it on high heat until it seethes up, and when it does, lower the heat. When it starts to smell, put soy sauce, garlic and pepper to salt it and cook it for a bit more. Check the amount of water and if it has decreased 20-30% of the original amount, it is done! You are ready to serve and enjoy. Now that you know how to make a seaweed soup, you will be able to surprise others and make them happy by cooking it for them on birthdays.

  1. Hi this is SunGyung Kim and I really loved your writing because this paragraph perfectly provided me with information needed to followed, trying to make a seeweed soup. It really helped such as a recipe.

    1. Your topic sentence is 'In Korea, it is a tradition to cook a seaweed soup when it is someone's birthday.' and this is one of the sencences, providing background information. I think this can act as a topic sentence, but meanwhile you might fine a better one.

    2. You are giving readerse background information about seeweed soup and why they have to follow all these steps. I especially loved this part of your paragraph because it is the most interesting and good introduction, I think, skimming others' writing of the same topic this week.

    3. Your paragraph describes well which steps to follow, but this does not obviously represents order words such as 'First, second...etc'. However, without all these signals, it was not too difficult to read the paragraph and understand the process.

    4. Your description is really good but the only problem is that you omit all the reasons for each step. I think your paragraph will become perfect if you explain why each step and process is required.

    5. The concluding sentence is 'you will be able to surprise others and make them happy by cooking it for them on birthdays.' This restates the main idea well, and gives a suggestion to readers.

  2. Hi, I'm yoon jung!

Your topic sentnece is the beginning 3 sentences. I can clearly identify the process that you will describe.

I think the background information about the process is included in the first beginning 3 sentences. You are making it because you can serve it for the birthday.

You used the words like 'After, Then, Lastly...' and it shows the clear process of making the seaweed soup.

I think your writing lacks of the reason why this process is useful. I think through adding this information your writing can be improved much more.

The concluding sentence is clear and restates well the topic sentence.

I really liked your paragraph! I think it is really useful tips.!

After preparing all the ingredients, soak the dried seaweed in the water for 20-30 minutes. This is important because you need to have your seaweed ready to be cooked when beef is ready. When it starts to smell, put soy sauce, garlic and pepper to salt it and cook it for a bit more. This is the part where the taste gets determined so make sure you check the time. Check the amount of water and if it has decreased 20-30% of the original amount, it is done! You are ready to serve and enjoy.
